This body of work applies meticulous rendering and
dense arrangement of a plethora of personal images, symbolisms and references
as well as other meaning-loaded elements, which has become the signature style
of Haslin’s artistic practice. These drawings and collages are largely laden
with private signifiers and hectic images, and done in a multi-layer and
multi-perspective approach, rendering his art chaotic with regard to its
composition and presentation, yet at the same time, highly suggestive as to its
intended meanings and messages.
“This new series of drawings reflects my personal
feelings about critical issues pertaining to our current life. They include
disturbing situations, such as the everlasting wars, the bombardment of
technologies without boundaries, and the presence of greedy and power-hungry
leaders who are exemplary of mankind’s utmost dark sides,” quipped Haslin.
Even though this series of new works vividly
embodies the frenzied and surrealistic mix of the artist’s creative mind, it
also reveals his critical introspective thoughts concerning the increasingly
haphazard situations that are eroding our humanity and, eventually, capable of
destroying our world. They are evocative of Haslin’s true feelings and psyche
in confronting the life’s mystery and beauty, as well as its unpredictability
and vulnerability. And the miniscule characters that the artist sophisticatedly
inserts amidst the labyrinthine compositions probably serve as symbols of our
hope and prayer.
